This story begins on the windswept shores of the Haunting Sea, in a humble fishing village named Syldhavn. It begins in a land of hardships, where cold weather and ancient spirits test the endurance of its people.
This is your story, and this is your land. Your father was a fisherman; he died ten years ago, leaving the family to face a life of struggle. Your mother has worked tirelessly to raise you and your older sister, Margretha, often at the expense of her own health. It hasn’t been easy; survival has demanded sacrifice and hard work from all of you.
Every year, at the beginning of Summer, Margretha leaves home to go work for your aunt in the nearby village of Lundby. She sends money whenever she can, and returns before the first storm.
This year, however, is different. Summer has ended, the Stormy Season has passed, and the air has turned cold and dry. Snow may fall at any moment – yet Margretha still hasn’t come home, nor have you heard any news of her.
This is where your story begins: on a dark and cold afternoon along the frozen shore. Amidst wooden huts and fleeting torchlights, haunted by howling winds and merciless storms; a place that you’ve always called home, but that you may soon have to leave…

Gamebook...?
A gamebook is a type of interactive story that features elements from traditional Roleplay Games.
- You will have a character sheet with attributes that define your character, and that will be used to test you.
- You will often have to make decisions to make the story progress.
- Your decision will affect not only your future, but will also subtly alter the world in which the story takes place.
About the Project
After a year of intensive work (and many more of planning and daydreaming) A Midwinter Journey is finally ready for release. It is the first instalment of a planned trilogy.
The inspiration comes from classic gamebooks, folklore, and dark fantasy
Gamebooks are powerful engines for storytelling, and this project aims at using digital pen-and-dice mechanics to make the format more accessible.
